What is the difference between Standard and Enterprise edition?

SQL Server 2022 Standard supports up to 24 cores and 128GB RAM and includes core HA features including Always On Availability Groups (2 nodes). Enterprise removes all hardware caps, adds unlimited virtualization rights, and includes advanced analytics, In-Memory OLTP, and more availability group replicas. Standard covers the vast majority of SMB and mid-market workloads.

How is SQL Server 2022 Standard licensed?

SQL Server 2022 Standard is licensed per core (minimum 4 cores per physical server) or per server plus CAL (Client Access License). The key delivered covers the server license. You may need separate CALs depending on your deployment model - check Microsoft's licensing guide for your specific scenario.

Is this a lifetime license or a subscription?
